Beaches

Beaches are plentiful in Honolulu. In fact, when leaving the hotel or place of accommodation, one must bring a swimwear and towel. Although almost all of Honolulu’s shorelines are lined with resorts and beach parks, vacationers should visit the nicer ones. Some of those worth mentioning includes Sunset Beach Park, Ke Iki, Lanikai Beach, Waimea Bay Beach Park and Mother’s Beach. Visitors can also tour the USS Bowfin submarine right next to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The harbor is also home to several other historical attractions such as the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the Pacific Aviation Museum. World war enthusiasts would surely enjoy looking at pictures and fighter planes inside the museum. In addition, Tourists can also visit the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Sightseeing Attractions

The Honolulu Museum of Art displays almost 38,000 general fine art pieces. It is considered the largest museum in Hawaii. Other historic landmarks include the King Kamehameha I Statue, Iolani Palace and the Kawaiahao Church.

In downtown Honolulu, visitors can find the Washington Place. It is included in a number of buildings generally referred to as the Hawaii Capital Historic District.

Outdoor Activities

Honolulu does not only have abundant beaches, it also has many parks and volcanoes. If you love the great outdoors, Diamond Head volcanic crater has a challenging trail to hike. Reaching the top offers a breathtaking view of the whole city. The Punchbowl Crater is also another popular overlook of downtown Honolulu.

Looking for some water adventure? Waikiki and several other beach destinations offer water activities such as surfing, canoe, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Honolulu Festival

The Honolulu Festival is an annual cultural event fostering ties between people of Hawaii and the Pacific region. It is celebrated every March, falling on the weekend. The three-day festival includes various cultural activities and educational tours.

Some of the activities held during the festival include friendship gala, cultural performances, symposium, raffle contests, craft fair, dance contests and free movies. Honolulu has strong Japanese influences so some of the special events include the Maui Mikoshi Unveiling Ceremony, Ennichi corner, Kawaii Kon, Anime corner and Bon Dance.

During the last day of the celebration, a grand parade and opening performance are held in the Waikiki area. The parade passes by the Saratoga Road and the Kalakua Avenue. The Nagaoka Fireworks Show tops the celebration on Sunday night.
