About Singapore

When one travels to the highly-modernized country of Singapore, it cannot be helped to think about the high-class Sentosa Island nearby. Geographically, Sentosa Island can be located off the country’s southern coast. Its former name was Pulau Belakang Mai, which is translated to “The Island After Death” in the Malay language. When Singapore was under the colonization of Britain, the island was planned to the centerpiece of “Fortress Singapore” an unsuccessful strategy used during the World War II. With its rich history and resources, Sentosa Island became a popular tourist attraction among locals and tourists alike. In fact, resort companies from all over the world invested in the beauty of Sentosa, thinking that the island will have a brighter future. Local Singaporeans often go to Sentosa for a quick getaway. Aside from the theme parks and beach resorts, the island is also home to shopping centers, hotels, casinos and entertainment hubs. Development was slow and despite the island’s promising attributes, many people became bored with the rides easily. During a certain period, locals refer to Sentosa island as “So Expensive and Nothing TO See Actually”. However, technology and innovation helped in upgrading the place until it is now home to attractions for adults and children alike. The new jewel in the world-famous Sentosa Island is the Resorts World Sentosa, a waterfront structure with various attractions and accommodations. Apart from Resorts World Sentosa, the island also features Dolphin Lagoon, Images of Singapore, Tiger Sky Tower, Fort Siloso, Song of the Sea, Sentosa Merlion, Underwater World and Sentosa Luge & Skyride among others. The famous Sentosa Merlion is a statue that can be viewed along the Singapore River. Asia’s Tallest Observation Tower, Tiger Sky Tower, can be found near the Cable Car Station, which offers the Images of Singapore Tour. Underwater World is also Asia’s largest tropical Oceanarium, with walk-through along fish tanks filled with sharks and other sea creatures. Underwater World’s ticket can also be used at Dolphin Lagoon. Fort Siloso will satisfy one’s love for history. It was once Britain’s largest naval base, with guns on its side in case of enemy attacks from the sea. Sentosa Island has a neighboring island named Kusu Island or Turtle Island. It is an untouched tropical location with minor attractions such as the Keramat Kusu, a Muslim shrine, and the Da Bogong Temple (Tua Pekong Temple), a Taoist temple. Although it is a small island as compared to Sentosa, it boasts of a paradise characterized by white sand shores, lush greenery and crystal blue waters. Getting around Sentosa is already easy, thanks to technology. There are beach trams or minivans, buses and trains that take guests around the island for free. One could tour the whole island in a day by riding on the Sentosa Monorail. From Singapore, guests could take the Sentosa Monorail or drive a private car to the island. There is a basic admission fee of $2 for each person. Sometimes, the fee is already included in the transportation fare from Singapore’s mainland to the island of Sentosa. A cable car can also be used from the mainland to Sentosa for a more scenic view of the country.
