About San Juan

The Caribbean city of San Juan is home to many beautiful beaches and a long list of tourist attractions. The city’s tropical climate makes it an ideal destination all year round. San Juan is a festive place and has a lively nightlife. The people love to party; thus, you will frequently see bars and dance clubs open until the break of dawn. San Juan has several districts; however, the most popular ones include the Old San Juan, El Condado and Isla Verde.

Old San Juan

One can do many activities in Old San Juan. For instance, you can visit Playa Capitolio, a tiny beach in front of the Capitol building. This beach is known for their abundant sea glass.

There are also many activities in Old San Juan. Some shops offer cheese-making workshops. There are rum-tasting tours that are both educational and very satisfying. Another one of a kind experience is the Casa Cortes Chocobar. It combines art, fine chocolates and sumptuous meals.

Puerto Rican coffee is also quite famous. If you are a coffee lover, then you will love the coffee cupping tour in Old San Juan. Taste the finest brewed coffee and learn more about the different blends with a one-hour class at Cuatro Sombras.

El Condado

El Condado has some of the best beaches, hotels and resorts in Puerto Rico. Most of them, however, are ideal for windsurfing. If you want a calmer beach for relaxation and swimming, go to Playita de Condado. The area is also good for snorkeling and it is near the Condado Plaza Hilton.

Apart from beaches, there is also a lagoon. The Laguna del Condado is ideal for boating, kayaking, pedal boating and the latest popular water adventure, stand up paddle boarding (SUP). The Condado Lagoon National Park surrounds the lagoon on the eastern side. Visitors can observe various wildlifes inside the park. There are also many visitors who love to stroll, jog, cycle or walk their pet dogs.

Other things you can do in Condado are sunset watching, attend or watch open-air jazz concerts or shop at the Urban Market right beside the beach.

Isla Verde

Isla Verde is nearest the airport and has plenty of hotels and other accommodations. Most of the activities you can do in Isla Verde are water activities as there are plenty of beaches here.

You can also stop by several popular restaurants and try their specialty dishes. For instance, there is España Bakery. It has been in business for more than 30 years. Some of the must-try dishes include pastelitos, Spanish style soup and the cafecito (local coffee).

Just a few miles outside Isla Verde is Fajardo. It is famous for its bioluminsicent bay, La Laguna Grande. This natural wonder is a unique experience and it is recommended that you should try it. The lagoon can be accessed through a kayak. Most of the time, guided tours are organized on a new moon, when the moon shines the least brightest. You will see the glow in the dark effect as you dip your paddle or your finger in the water.
