About Rio De Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is such a festive place that visitors often want to go on a holiday there for fun, relaxation and nightlife. However, Rio is also a destination for nature lovers. Rio has plenty of mountains, lakes, beaches, parks and rainforests where visitors can enjoy almost any outdoor adventure.

Beaches

One of the most popular beaches in Rio is the Copacabana Beach. Many hotels and resorts line the Copacabana beachfront. Visitors can stay relaxed all day with the magnificent view of the ocean from their hotel room.

Near the Copacabana is another well-known destination, the Ipanema beach. Just like Copacabana beach, Ipanema is also lined with various hotels, restaurants and shops. The Travel Channel once dubbed Ipanema beach as the sexiest beach in the world.

For those who do not want congestion and more of relaxation, Leme beach is the ideal place for you. Locals also prefer this place because only a few tourists know about it.

Nature Tripping

If you love nature tripping and outdoor adventures, make sure to go on a hiking trip to one of the iconic landmarks of Rio de Janeiro, the Sugarloaf Mountain. It obtained its name from a concentrated loaf of sugar because it resembles its shape. Visitors can ride a glass-walled cable car to the top of the mountain. For the adventurous types, there are plenty of rock climbing routes to follow.

The Rodrigo de Freitas Lake is also a must-see destination for nature lovers. Many sports and water activities can be enjoyed around the lake. There are also many parks and gardens surrounding it. Some of this includes the Catacumba Park, Henrique Lage Park, and the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden.

Tijuca Forest is an urban, hand-planted rainforest and a national park in Rio. From Tijuca, one can see the Christ the Redeemer on top of the Corcovado Mountain. The Tijuca features the Stone of Gavea, Taunay Cascade, Fairy’s Lake, Vista Chinese, Tijuca Mirim Peak and several other attractions.

Sightseeing

For those who want to go sightseeing, the Art Deco statue of Christ the Redeemer is a must-see. One would have no trouble seeing it as it is perched on top of the Corcovado Mountain, almost 40 meters high.

Make sure to visit the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. The church’s interior is a breathtaking sight to see. South of the cathedral is the Lapa neighborhood where many historical sites are situated. Further south is the Selaron Staircase. Visitors would find the multi-colored and decorated staircase a remarkable sight.

Festival

The Rio de Janeiro Carnaval is one of the most visited festivals in the world with over two million visitors per day. The festival is celebrated just before Lent. Visitors love the festive atmosphere, lively samba music, colorful costumes and lavishly designed floats. Several events are taking place at the same time such as the street carnival, Sambodromo parade, Copacabana beach ball and various other activities. The festival starts on Friday and ends on Ash Wednesday. However, the festival continues on Saturday where a Winners’ Parade is held.
