About New York City

Touted as the city that never sleeps, New York City is full of activities and sights you should never miss. Apart from the iconic Statue of Liberty, New York City is a host to hundreds of excellent restaurants, signature brand stores and other establishments. From Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn to Staten Island, every corner of New York is a must-see.

Must-see Attractions

When in New York City, never miss the chance to visit the Statue of Liberty. For generations, the monument served as a symbol of new beginnings in the land of milk and honey. Explore the magnificent Times Square on foot or enjoy an afternoon stroll in Central Park. If traveling New York with your family, visit the beachfront amusement district of Coney Island. Children will also love to see safari animals in the Bronx Zoo.

Meanwhile, baseball fans and enthusiasts should never miss the chance to see the historic Yankee Stadium. Those who love visiting historical attractions should check downtown Manhattan where most cultural institutions are concentrated. From there, you can have a picture-perfect view of the Brooklyn Bridge just right across the street.

Things to Do

One can never feel bored when in New York City, choose from a wide selection of activities such as day tours, cultural and entertainment shows, concerts, shopping and dining. Since New York is too big to cover in a day, there are sightseeing cruises offered so visitors can access all five boroughs in half a day. Cruising also gives visitors a view of several attractions and historical landmarks in just a short span of time.

New York City has a very lively nightlife where visitors can party until the break of dawn. Sports enthusiasts, on the other hand, can watch a soccer game, NBA game, NFL or a baseball game. The city also hosts a few quirky sporting events such as a race to the top of the Empire State Building, squash tournament in the middle of the Grand Central Terminal and bull riding in Madison Square Garden.

Annual Events

New York has on-going festivals and annual events from January to December. Among the most notable are the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting and Times Square New Year’s Eve countdown. Other must-see events include the Firecracker Ceremony during Chinese New Year, the New York International Auto Show in April and the New York Film Festival in September. No matter which month of the year, you are sure to witness a spectacular event in the “big apple”.

Basic Visitor Info

Getting around New York City is never a problem as the city has quite plenty of public transportation such as subways, MTA buses, yellow cabs, rent-a-cars, pedicabs and ferries in between islands. When in Queens, experience a ride aboard the 7 train along the purple-lit subway. It passes through several of New York’s boroughs, immigrant neighborhoods and various ethnic restaurants. Here is another tip for visitors, NYC bans smoking in public and that includes restaurants, bars, subways and inside taxicabs. Smoking and drinking age are 21 just like in the rest of the country.

New York City is perhaps one of the most visitor-friendly cities in the world. Many hotels around the area are kid-friendly, ideal for couples or ideal for businessmen. Getting a dose of the big apple for the first time may leave you asking for more.
