About Miami

Also known as the Magic City, Miami enchants the senses as it presents a plethora of cultures from Latin America and Europe through its musicians and artists, historic monuments, art galleries, museums, nature parks, heritage sites, restaurants, clubs and bistros, and many more. For the little ones, a trip to Zoo Miami, Jungle Island or Seaquarium is always a welcome delight along with a stroll through Crandon Park with its family-friendly attractions, such as the vintage carousel, seahorse fountain and arboretum, to name a few.

Must-See Attractions

Start with a tour of the Art Deco District during the day before checking out the Art Walks at night along with free wine and music. One of the walks passes through Calle Ocho in Little Havana while a more sedate one traipses through historic Coral Gables. Other places to see include Lincoln Road, which is an outdoor mall for pedestrians; Bayside Marketplace, which is a waterfront mall; the Museum of Contemporary Art, which treats visitors to free live jazz music; Biscayne National Park, which offers a glass-bottom boat tour; and South Pointe Park, which offers breathtaking views of departing cruise ships that docked at the Port of Miami.

Things to Do

Apart from enjoying the beach and seeing the sights around town, Miami's visitors can also explore the historic lighthouse on Key Biscayne and do some outdoor yoga on the water in Coconut Grove, Margaret Pace Park, and Bayfront Park. The adventurous and athletic types can go kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing or fishing. After sundown, throngs of locals and tourists hit South Beach for all-night partying among the countless lounges, clubs and bars in the area. For a delightful dinner or lunch, everyone has a myriad of sumptuous choices ranging from upscale to down home cooking, and anything in between.

Events and Festivals

Miami holds wine and food festivals, fashion events, and sports competitions all year round. The most memorable ones include the King Mango Strut Parade, Gay Pride Week, Aqua Girl, Carnaval and Calle Ocho Festival, Great Grove Bed Race, Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, and many more. The city also hosts an international book fair and arts festival, plus famous events, such as NASCAR, Tennis Open, and Winter Music Conference, just to name a few.

Basic Visitor Info

Getting around Miami is easy. There are numerous taxis and buses to choose from for your trips around the metro area. Visitors also have the choice of riding the elevated tram called Metromover, which has a looping route around Downtown Miami, or taking the Metrorail for faster travel. A less expensive option is to go biking through the city's numerous parks or its bustling streets. They also have South Beach minibuses that are accessible to bicycle riders and wheelchair users.

Like most major cities in America, Miami is blessed with the cultural diversity that offers pleasurable opportunities for learning and exploration to its thousands of visitors. Coupled with world-class amenities, a visit to Miami is sure to give you and your family a lifetime of memories!
