About Melbourne

Melbourne is a lovely place to visit because it is packed with plenty of attractions to see and activities to do. For this reason, Melbourne is an ideal place to visit for family vacations and group tours. The attractions and activities are so diverse; you would never go bored exploring it.

Family Vacations

The city of Melbourne contains plenty of parks, zoos, aquariums and many other kid-friendly sights. One of the things you can do is visit the ArtPlay studio for kids. You can also play in the Black Light Mini Golf at Docklands. The UV lights make it extra interesting for kids.

For the Boys

For boys, let them play in the M9 Laser Skirmish indoor game center in the Crown Entertainment Complex. Try indoor rock climbing as well at Hardrock in Swanston Street. The Grid Melbourne provides a Grand Prix experience with their virtual / simulated driving. Just like the Grid, Motionators also provide a virtual F1 driving experience. Both can be found at the Docklands. For kids who dream of becoming a pilot, Flight Experience Australia provides close to real flight simulations in Lonsdale Street.

For the Nature and Wildlife Lovers

The Melbourne Aquarium contains some of exotic marine life such as elephant sharks, Gentoo penguins, tortoises, tropical fish and crocodiles. Drive a few kilometers outside the city and to the Melbourne Zoo to see the kangaroos, koalas, gorillas, penguins, wombats, platypus, tigers and elephants.

The Royal Botanical Garden is also worth a visit. The garden is divided into several sections such as the Tropical Hothouse, National Herbarium, Guilfoyle’s Volcano water reservoir and the Plant Craft Cottage.

Another point of interest is the Fitzroy Gardens. The garden, which was built during the 1800s, follows a Victorian-inspired landscape. Among its highlights, include the Fairies’ Tree with a carving made by Ola Cohn, mini Tudor Village, historic fountains, rotunda and a band pavilion.

For the Whole Family

For a family adventure, visit the Eureka Skydeck 88 at Southbank. Climb all the way to the top of the Southern Hemisphere and see the captivating view of Melbourne in an all-glass platform. Another way to see a panoramic view of Melbourne is through the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel. The whole family can ride one of the air-conditioned cabins and enjoy the stunning view of the city at the top.

The Melbourne Museum provides an educational experience for the young with their Bunjilaka Aboriginal Center, Touring Hall exhibits, IMAX Theater, living rainforest and a skeleton of a blue whale.

For history lovers, drop by Captain James Cook’s Cottage and discover more about his amazing voyages. The cottage is surrounded by a pretty garden with homegrown herbs. This popular landmark also has a Discovery Center where visitors can learn more about his life, works and death.

Festivals

Melbourne’s list of festivals and events is definitely full all year round. In January, the city celebrates Australian Open Tennis, Australia Day and Midsumma. In February, they have the Tropfest. March is for Moomba Fest and Formula 1 Grand Prix. April is Anzac Day. May is for Coffee Expo and Good Beer Week. The city celebrates Melbourne Day in August. October and November are for various city-related events. In December, the city celebrates Big Design Market, Carols and Boxing Day for Cricket.
