About London

Many people consider London as an ideal destination for a grand vacation. After all, the place is brimming with attractions, historical infrastructures, iconic landmarks and avant gardes. When it comes to fashion, arts and music, London is considered one of the leading cities.

Travel Tips

Although London also offers kid-friendly activities and sites, the city is more appropriate for a romantic getaway, backpacking or an all-adult relaxation tour. Traveling while sightseeing can be stressful especially for smaller kids, therefore, a special trip planning must be executed. If you were travelling with younger kids and babies on strollers, the most comfortable mode of transportation would be a taxi. However, getting around London in a taxi can be pretty expensive.

What to See

Shopping, dining, night clubbing and drinking in London are bliss for those who love these activities. However, before you splurge on all these things, you must visit some iconic landmarks first to get postcard-worthy snapshots.

The Tower of London is a World Heritage site located at the north of the River Thames. The site is the original royal citadel and houses the Crown Jewels. The castle and the Crown Jewels are guarded by Yeoman Warders, popularly known as, Beefeaters. South of the River Thames sits the popular London Eye, the third largest in the world, providing its riders a magnificent view of London.

The Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Westminster Palace are three sites you should visit in Westminster. The latter contains the famous Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. UNESCO also considers it as a World Heritage site.

Meanwhile, within the city, you can find St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower Bridge. Other famous landmarks include the Marble Arch in central London and the Piccadilly Circus, which highlights the statue of Eros. In addition, you should also visit Nelson’s columns in Trafalgar Square. During Christmas, the public square displays a grand Christmas tree from Oslo.

London Events

All year-round, London has plenty of festivals and shows in store for their visitors. Some of the most popular festivals include the City of London Festival, the Lord Mayor’s Show and Notting Hill Carnival. The City of London Festival is celebrated annually in June and July. The three-week long festival highlights the cultural aspect, thus, each year the theme varies from one country to another. Most of the festival’s activities relate to classical, jazz, opera and world music.

The Lord Mayor’s Show is considered one of the oldest events in London, way back 16th century. The event is given honor of the Lord Mayor of London and his inauguration. During the celebration, the new Lord Mayor parades throughout the city staring from the Guildhall, passing through the St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Mansion House, and the city center, to the City of Westminster.

Notting Hill Carnival, meanwhile, happens every August. It is considered as the second largest carnival in the world. The carnival’s theme is Afro-Caribbean with lively street parades. The participants often wear bright, colorful and loud costumes while dancing.
