About Las Vegas

Las Vegas is popular for its casinos, colorful lights, crazy nightlife and shopping. However, not many people know that Las Vegas also has several attractions where kids can also enjoy. Although the city’s center is mostly comprised of hotels, shopping centers, casinos and resorts, visitors can also drop by museums, galleries, religious sites, sports venues, theme park and zoos.

Las Vegas for Family

Not all museums are fit for children. Some may have an erotic theme while some would be too grotesque for little children. However, kids would enjoy visiting majority of the museums. For instance, there is the Pinball Hall of Fame and Museum. It features more than a hundred vintage pinball machines where children and adults alike can play for free.

The Lied Discovery Children’s Museum fits children of all ages from toddlers to adolescents. The science museum mostly features interactive exhibits, a drawing area, music area and a library right beside it. In addition, the museum gives free art classes every Saturday afternoons.

Madame Tussaud’s is immensely popular in any parts of the world and this includes the Vegas exhibition. Visitors can take pictures and get up close and personal with various Hollywood stars, celebrities, and other well-known personalities all over the world. It also has a Haunted House section where live performers make it extra thrilling to explore.

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum displays various taxidermy exhibits from an enormous stuffed bear to a stuffed elk. It also has two life sixed dinosaurs. Be careful if visiting with little kids as they may end up crying if they see those dinosaurs up close.

The Atomic Testing Museum shows the old Nevada testing site for nuclear bombs. It shows various memorabilia, pictures, gallery and library. Another must-see museum is the Titanic Exhibition. It shows some relics from the sunken ship as well as recreations of first, second and third class cabins. Older children, however, would appreciate these museums better than younger ones.

Outdoor Adventure

Ironically, The Adventuredome Theme Park is actually indoor. Some of the parks highlights include a double loop roller coaster against a simulated Grand Canyon, carnival style arcade and a video games corner.

The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, located in The Mirage, is another must-visit site. The area is divided into a jungle and marine section. The Secret Garden features Bengal tigers, white lions, panthers, elephants and snow leopards in an Asian / Indian setting. The Dolphin Habitat, on the other hand, features dolphins in captivity swimming in synthetic seawater. Visitors can toss ball with the dolphins or they can be a trainer for a day in the pool.

Another attraction for family and kids is the MGM Grand Lion Habitat. Entrance is free so it can be a bit crowded at times. Lions can be viewed from multi-level glass enclosures as well as a glass tunnel. However, if you have small children with you, they may have trouble viewing the lions as visitors are often pressed against the glass walls.
