About Cairns

Cairns is a cosmopolitan city with a tropical climate and many well-preserved natural resources. For instance, the Great Barrier Reef can be accessed from Cairns. Many outdoor and sports enthusiasts will also find Cairns as an ideal place for vacation because of the many activities offered in the area.

Island Cruises and Reef Adventure

For many, the Great Barrier Reef is the ultimate destination. For this reason, many travel companies offer island adventure tours to the area. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling and diving to explore the coral gardens and exotic fish. Some island tours also offer semi-submersible reef tours or through the underwater observatory. Some tours even combine island / reef tours with rainforest tours. Most companies offer half day or full day tours.

Bungee Jumping with a Twist

Back in the 80s, bungee jumping was as simple as taking a simple swan dive. However, in the recent years, it has evolved into different variations such as riding a BMX bike, bungee and swing combo and the group Minjin Swing. AJ Hackett, the first ever-commercial bungee jumper, operates The One and Only Bungee Tower in Australia.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Exploring the rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef on board a hot air balloon is absolutely breathtaking. Floating high above the ground, visitors are treated to a 360-degree panoramic view of Cairns as well as the rest of Tropical North Queensland.

Jungle Trekking

Cairns has some of the oldest and best rainforests in the world. Cape Tribulation has some of its areas included in the World Heritage list. Daintree Wilderness, on the other hand, contains some of the oldest rainforests in the world. Visitors can settle comfortably in an air-conditioned bus and they would be taken to the Wildlife Habitat, Daintree River to see various wildlife, Alexandra lookout and Cape Tribulation beach.

Cairns-Kuranda Railway Tour

For those who want to see the different tropical rainforests, waterfalls, and ravines, but find it too difficult to travel on foot, the Kuranda Railway tour makes sightseeing easier. A luxurious train ride also provide its visitors an unforgettable experience. Visitors are seated comfortable in club-style seats while being offered with refreshing drinks and appetizers.

White Water Rafting

Experience the refreshing, tropical water of Tully and Barron rivers through white water rafting. Tully River alone has around 45 rapids with some reaching grader four levels. Some of the most well known Tully river rapids include Theater, Alarm Clock, Staircase, and Wet and Moisty. Enjoy with the rest of the gang on a half-day tour to Barron River. There are well-trained river guides to accompany the tourists for added safety.

Cultural Tours

Cairns has the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, to help promote the ancient culture of the Australian aborigines. The park offers different activities by day and night. For instance, visitors by day are treated to cultural dance performances, art exhibitions, and spear and boomerang throwing. At night, the park treats their visitors to storytelling, traditional music and dances and face painting.

Cairns has a multitude of activities in store for its visitors. Other worthwhile activities include a visit to the Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome, helicopter rides, and skydiving.
